Magaliesberg to Hartebeespoort

…. and the end of the Journey of Hope 2011 ride.

With mixed feelings of elation and sadness our team embarked on the last leg of the Journey, riding from our overnight accommodation in the Magaliesberg to Pecanwood Golf Estate on the banks of the Hartebeespoort Dam where our sponsors and family members awaited us. A brunch event brought the Journey of Hope 2011 ride to a close. Our sponsors were thanked for their contributions as without them our Journey would not have been possible. To our delight Honda pledged to support us again in 2012 and many of the stakeholders involved in 2011 were asked to participate again in the 2012 ride. At the end of the event some rides returned home with their families while the rest rode the bikes back to OR Tambo International Airport where overnight accommodation, sponsored by City Lodge, had been arranged.

Bela Bela to Magaliesberg

The dusty red streets of Thabazimbi were painted pink with posters announcing our arrival when we rolled into town to address the community at the Thabazimbi Community Clinic. Marie Steenkamp was responsible for thrumming up enthusiasm in the town and our event was well attended by clinic staff and the local community. Thabazimbi Mayor Patricia Mosito was present to address the audience after our riders had shared their stories. A mobile clinic was made available for anyone wishing to have a free breast exam. After a lunch of boerewors rolls, sponsored by Pick n Pay, our riders hit the road again for a game lodge in the Magaliesberg where we spent our last night. An informal awards dinner recognised every member of the team for their contributions and we spent our last evening together reminiscing and relishing the friendships we built during the ride.
